How ‘Someday’ Clutter Steals Your Time.

We all have it. That drawer, closet, or garage shelf filled with things we’re “saving for someday.” You know the stuff—

  • The bread maker you used once back in 2007.

  • The stack of craft supplies for that Pinterest project you never actually started.

  • Jeans from three sizes ago because someday you might wear them again.

I call it Someday Clutter.

The problem? Someday rarely shows up. Those “just in case” items take up valuable space in your home and in your head. And while you’re waiting for the perfect moment to finally use them, they’re quietly stressing you out every time you open that drawer or closet.

Here’s the thing—holding on to stuff for someday doesn’t make us more prepared. It just leaves us with more piles to trip over.

So how do you tackle Someday Clutter?

  1. Be honest about your timeline. If you haven’t touched it in the last year, what are the odds you’ll suddenly need it in the next?

  2. Do the replacement test. If someday did arrive, could you replace that item easily and affordably? If yes, let it go.

  3. Admit what season you’re in. Life changes. Kids grow. Hobbies shift. Clutter from old seasons doesn’t always belong in your current one.

In Episode 2 of Get Unstuffed, I dive into this whole idea of Someday Clutter—the random things we keep around “just in case,” the guilt behind why we hang on, and the freedom that comes with letting go.

Because let’s be real: someday isn’t on the calendar. And the space you’ll gain by letting go? You can use that today.
